An inborn talent, straight from the uterus 🐷
Mar 21, 2023💉🛡️ Rather, inborn protection! An Associate Professor with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Pharmacy and Nutrition says that the administration of vaccines to sows and gilts during artificial insemination offers their piglets earlier disease protection.
• The advantages don’t end there: first of all, it’s needle-free; secondly, considering that most commercial pigs are bred by artificial insemination and this vaccine is administered at the same time, there’s zero need for extra steps or procedures; lastly, because it’s in the uterus and could develop immunity in the mucus, piglets are already born immunized.
• Once the trials are complete and the effectiveness is demonstrated, it will be possible to apply this approach to other diseases and species of animals – and even humans! Read more about it here.
