ASF has taken a trip to India โ๐ฎ๐ณ
Aug 23, 2022Yet another piece of news where ASF is “taking a trip” somewhere… This time, samples of unwell pigs from the Patiala district – Punjab, India – have tested positive for African swine fever (ASF), Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said on Friday.
- The villages of Bilaspur and Sanauri Adda have been declared as the “epicenter”; areas within a one-kilometer radius from these villages have been considered “infected zones” and those within 10 km are considered “surveillance zones”; and the whole of Punjab was classified as a “controlled area.”
The government has initiated measures under “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009,” which have come into force with immediate effect in order to prevent, control, and eradicate ASF.
No live pig, unprocessed pig meat, feed, or any material from pig farms or backyard piggeries shall be taken out of or brought into the infected zone and no person shall bring into the market any pig or pig products known to be infected with the disease.
