Backfiring? 😱

📃 Earlier this year, the USDA proposed that the label “Product of USA” be restricted to meat, poultry, and eggs that are born, raised, slaughtered, and processed within the US alone – currently, being processed in the country is already enough to carry the label. The justification is giving the much needed transparency that consumers deserve – that's the idea, at least, but is it a good one? Not according to Canada’s deputy ambassador.

🇺🇲🇨🇦 Canada is concerned about the real-world consequences of this action – for starters, it can backfire on the industry. How so? With animals from both nations available to processors, plants can operate at full capacity, but that won't be the case with the change – small and medium-sized processors are the ones that can least afford to segregate products.
