Check off the checkoff boards ✅

📃 Checking them off the list of headaches for producers: Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Mike Lee (R-UT) are proposing legislation that would reform agricultural checkoff programs. The "Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act" is meant to prohibit wasteful, anti-competitive, and deceptive behavior from checkoff boards.

👩‍🌾 The programs, which advocate against farmers’ and ranchers’ best interests, need transparency and oversight. So the bipartisan legislation will prevent conflicts of interest and anti-competitive practices in these programs by prohibiting a checkoff board from contracting with an organization that engages in lobbying or in any acts that may harm farmers.
