Disinfect after washing, please 😷

🧼 How do you disinfect a swine transportation trailer after washing? There are many ways to do it – after having looked into what time, length, and temperature requirements destroy the pathogens, a research in Canada continues to look into the role of biofilm.

• This is what we know so far: with no presence of fecal matter and within 15 minutes, all pathogens are destroyed at 167°F (75°C). 

• However… microorganisms can become much more resistant to disinfection not only when inside a biofilm, but also when they emerge from a biofilm matrix.

🔬The next steps:

• Researchers will be looking into the relationship between biofilm and surfaces, and how chemical, physical, and biological changes affect pathogen survivability. To better understand biofilm removal, first we must better understand biofilms themselves.
