Gut response ๐ฆ
Feb 14, 2023๐ท Our gut can save us – both literally and figuratively! A quick, instinctual action may be the key to getting us out of trouble, and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of pigs can prevent the infiltration of unwanted pathogens that can lead to illness and loss of productivity.
• The most important job of the GI is not necessarily to digest food, but to house around 70% of the immune system and keep harmful substances from entering the body.
• However… if the intestinal barrier (one-cell thick!) is damaged, then the door is open for pathogens. Stress may open that door, and once it’s open, an animal can be left with what’s called Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS).
๐ Needless to say, gut health is key to the overall performance of every pig, and so it is important to support it and work to minimize stress. Do you want to learn how to do that? Check out the content from the Kemin Intestinal Health Symposium, and click here to learn more about the gut!
