Hoist the sails!
Sep 20, 2022This is no pirate movie and we’re not talking about that kind of ship. But thanks to a deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey to unblock Ukrainian seaports (a situation which we mentioned briefly here), a total of 165 ships with 3.7 million tonnes of agricultural products on board have left the Ukrainian shore.
- Ukraine used to be a major global grain producer and exporter, but exports slumped after Russia invaded the country and blockaded its Black Seaports, driving up global food prices and prompting fears of shortages in Africa and the Middle East.
- However, three Black Seaports were reopened under a deal signed by Moscow and Kyiv at the end of July this year (take a look here).
So it seems things are looking a bit brighter for Ukrainian exports.
