Ironic news
Sep 09, 2022Life is full of ironies… take this latest development on Proposition 12, for instance. On the same day the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) and the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) filed a reply brief with the US Supreme Court against it, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced it had completed the implementation rules.
- The NPPC and AFBF will present their case on October 11.
- The reply brief is one step closer to showing the Supreme Court how the California Proposition violates the US Constitution and defending the livelihoods of America's pork producers.

The more than three-year delay in completing the implementation rules has unnecessarily increased supply chain disruptions and now creates significant concerns for farmers that these arbitrary regulations put the nation's pig herds at risk of disease.
- It’s claimed that having California agents inspect their farms will create serious biosecurity threats to farms across the country.
