Although African swine fever (ASF) continues to spread, the US remains free. Hooray, right? More or less. Sure, that’s great news, but the government alone can’t solve this issue – producers must join in too (as you’ve already been doing). 

• So far, the US government has put strong safeguards in place – surveillance programs, increased testing capabilities, enhanced efforts by the US Customs and Border Protection, added import restrictions on pork and pork products from ASF-affected countries, supported industry-led efforts… the list goes on.

As for the producers? Learn how to identify ASF symptoms, and don’t hesitate to reach out to a veterinarian if you feel suspicious.
