Though that might depend on whom you ask, the fact is that when it comes to US agriculture, the scale's been tipping towards the latter over the past century. The current downward trend in the number of US farms reflects the growing productivity of agriculture, its increased mechanization, and the boom in nonfarm employment opportunities.
