Should I stay or should I go?
Nov 29, 2022More than just an iconic song, this question demonstrates the conflict that the production of pork in the US and Canada has been faced with – and the answer has been leaning towards staying. According to expectations, domestic demand for pork will be the key factor driving pork prices as we head into 2023.
• It’s been a disappointing year for exports from both the US and Canada. In that scenario, domestic demand has (kinda) carried us so far. There have been years in the past when exports have been the big item carrying the US market and domestic demand wasn’t so good, but these last two years have been the exact opposite.
If inflation allows it and doesn’t reduce the amount of dollars spent on meat, the same may hold true in 2023. Read more about it here.
