2023 Farm Bill 🧾

The Farm Bill will be updated in 2023. The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) highlighted the perks of the 2018 Farm Bill – permanent, mandatory funding for animal disease prevention and preparedness. As for the 2023 Farm Bill, the NPPC supports the development of a foot and mouth disease vaccine bank.

• The purpose of the vaccine bank will be to enable the quick containment and eradication of an outbreak and prevent financial losses. 

A new report says that the U.S. farming and processing sectors are responsible for over $35 billion in personal income and boosts in the economic activity of related services.

• The pork industry, in particular, currently supports 613,823 direct and indirect jobs across the country.

What about Canada? While the country ranks third among all countries for annual pork exports, it’s also one of the world’s major importers of it.

• It’s recently approved pork imports from Brazil.
• The nation’s dealing with a severe problem of feral pigs, having one of the highest populations in the world.
