The lowest price
Sep 09, 2022Can you guess who had the lowest price for pork in South America in August? According to the Paraguayan Association of Pig Producers (APPC), Paraguay takes home that prize – the value per kilo of live weight represented the lowest price for animals brought to slaughterhouses in the region.
- Uruguay, on the other hand, had the highest prices in the region, followed by Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.
Jorge Ramírez, president of the APPC, indicated the devaluation coincides with the increase in production costs. The surplus, both nationally and regionally, continues to be a very worrying factor for the sector because it leads to lower prices.
- There is a drop in what small and medium farms are receiving, while the cost of production is still quite high and farms continue to work with a negative balance.
- Small and medium producers are suppliers for the domestic market.
