The Swine Health Information Center (SHIC) is keeping an eye on reports out of China that outline evidence of a recombination of African Swine Fever (ASF) genotypes 1 and 2 viruses – which may prove to be more difficult to detect and less controllable through vaccination. 

⚠️💉 Why is this such a big deal? Because a vaccine prototype that is efficient and safe against one genotype may not be suitable against another or any recombination, meaning a new recombinant virus could continue to spread and cause trouble. To better understand the danger, read this.
